  • The Federal Communications Commission recently raised minimum standards for high-speed fixed broadband to download speeds of 100 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 20 Mbps.

In light of these changes, the Texas Broadband Development Office (BDO) seeks public comment on existing standards for classifying the state’s underserved locations on the Texas Broadband Development Map.

Public comment will help the BDO make a recommendation to the Texas Legislature regarding whether, and to what extent, the speed thresholds for underserved locations should be revised. These thresholds will help determine state funding for broadband infrastructure grant awards.

Comments must be submitted by June 2, 2024, to BDO Director Greg Conte, Texas Broadband Development Office, by email or by mail at P.O. Box 13528, Austin, TX 78711-3528.
